There is probably not a single residential, industrial, or commercial property being built, remodeled, or added onto today that doesn’t utilize engineered wood products. And for good reasons.
Engineered wood products have higher strength-to-weight ratios and a higher load-bearing capacity than solid wood. They’re easy to work with using ordinary tools and basic skills. They’re easy to finish, taking paints, stains, and varnishes beautifully.
Engineered wood products are renewable. They’re made from small pieces of wood, not whole trees. In the manufacturing process, the strands, particles, and fibers of the wood are bound together with adhesives and pressed. During this process, defects, such as cracks or knots, are either removed or reduced until they’re practically nonexistent.
The resulting products are consistent throughout, strong, stable, and versatile. Plywood panels can even be bent to create a curved surface without losing any strength.
Boilard Lumber has laminated veneer lumber (LVL), AdvanTech moisture-resistant subfloors, plus I-joists and lumber with Weyerhaeuser's Flak Jacket fire-retardant protection. In short, we have engineered wood products in all the thicknesses, sizes, grades, and exposure durability classifications you could want.
Stronger than wood and more consistent, LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber) is a wood product made of layered wood strands or flakes
and compressed with adhesive to produce a variety of wood components used for construction. LSL Lumber is
installed like traditional lumber but is preferred because of its consistency in stability, design, strength, weight, and resistance
to shrinking and warping. Ideal for load-bearing applications.
Boilard Lumber stocks LSL in 2x4x10.
Boilard's OSB plywood (Oriented Strand Board) is considered an engineered wood product, created by pressing small strands of wood together with glue and wax in a hot press. Popular because it is not prone to warp in the way traditional plywood does and is rated far above typical wafer board.
Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is an engineered wood product consisting of multiple layers of thin wood laminated under heat and pressure with a moisture- resistant resin. Because it is manufactured to exact specifications, it is more uniform than conventional lumber and less likely to warp, twist, bow, or shrink. It is typically used for headers, beams, rimboard, and edge-forming material.
